What are the local arrangements in Shropshire?

Effective from 15 September 2025: West Mercia Police deliver Operation Encompass across Shropshire. Notifications are no longer being sent via the Local Authority and now come directly from West Mercia Police.

What This Means for Schools and Early Years settings:

• Ensure you have an Operation Encompass 'Key Adult' at your setting/school (usually the DSL/DDSL) who has completed Online National Key Adult Training : Operation Encompass training.
• Identify one secure email address to enable notifications to be sent to. This could be a confidential shared mailbox or individual secure work email (for example of the DSL). The email address must be accessible and checked at the start of each school day so that notifications are received, monitored and acted upon promptly, including when the usual Designated Safeguarding Lead is not available.  
•  Share/update (if this has changed) secure email address with VulnerabilityHub@westmercia.police.uk. 
• Address any queries or questions about notifications with the officer who sends it to you.
• Use and follow
  • the Resources for educational settings : Operation Encompass (there is no longer a local protocol/templates). These include: Handbooks outlining School/settings responsibilities & resources (including Setting/School to parent letters and awareness posters).
